4 Stars No complaints on a great washer
My wife and I bought this washer 3 months ago, along with its companion dryer the DLG5966g, for use in a new “kitchen laundry cubby” installation on a new ceramic tile floor. We had concerns about having a washer/dryer in our living area because of noise, but they have been totally unfounded. One room away from the living room and TV, we rarely even notice it working as it goes through its cycles. Our other concern was whether we would have problems with vibration and the washer wanting to “walk” during the extremely high speed spin cycle of these new front loaders. The first few loads put our minds to rest. Even at the highest spin speed the vibration is hardly noticeable. LG has done a great job engineering this unit. Note, however, that this washer needs to be on a solid floor (concrete or ceramic tile) to work properly. I wouldn’t recommend installing it on a wood or laminate floor. We purchased the optional pedestals, which puts these at a great height for convenience and comfort. Built-in drawers, too. Very large capacity, and there are plenty of cycle choices and options, but not terribly complicated to operate. My wife says it does a much better job of cleaning the clothes than our old top loader, using much less water and HE detergent.

The only drawback so far is that a typical wash cycle takes about 90 minutes. If you’re used to much less than that, and if it’s a critical factor for you, consider another washer. We’re not in that big of a hurry. It does have a “speed wash” cycle which can run a load through considerable faster if you find yourself in a hurry. My wife also uses the “extra rinse” option, which adds a few more minutes. Probably not necessary, but it’s there if you want it.

The only reason that I didn’t give this washer 5 stars is because we haven’t owned it long enough to know if it will hold up well over the years. It’s direct drive, which was one of the criteria that made me choose it over other models. I’m hoping that this will also add to the reliability. If it’s continuing to work well in a few years then it definitely deserves a 5 star rating.

I’ve had this washer and the LG DLE 5955G dryer for about 6 months now. I absolutely love both of them. This is my first front loading w/d set and I could not be happier.

5 Stars Wonderful Product
I stumbled across this product at an appliance dealer in February. My 4-year-old front-loading Kenmore washer had developed the mildew “stank” and I was ready to purchase another washer because nothing I tried previously had worked to remove the odor. I followed the instructions on the package of Affresh and placed 3 tablets in the washer for my first use of the product and the smell went away completely. I now use 1 tablet a month (as the directions recommend) and have not had a problem with the midlew smell since. I was surprised to learn that other reviewers thought the product did not work. I have recommended this product to all of my family & friends who have front-loading washers.

5 Stars Love These Tablets
I had my front loaders for about 5 years before I found these wonderful tablets. The first time I used them, I followed the Internet suggestion of running 3 seperate cycles (1 tablet per cycle) and using all three tablets right away; I was amazed at how well they worked. Now I use one tablet every couple of months to keep my machine fresh.

I also bought extras and sent them to my mom and my brother to try them in their front loaders too =)

1 Star Use of affresh to clean washer
I followed instructions to the letter. Used 3 tablets for the initial treatment. This product is not effective, and although the material in the washer was somewhat softened, it was not removed or remotely abated. I see no further purchases of this stuff.

5 Stars Makes a huge difference!
I had no idea that this could make huge difference to the musty smell that was in the towels! It was because the front loaders (LG) tend to have a residual that can accumulate and cuase odor. Need to do every other month!

5 Stars Affresh works great!
Affresh really works. Although my front-load Maytag washer did not have a smell, I just thought it needed some sort of cleaning after all the heavy usage we give it. I used to clean my old top-load Kenmore by periodically running a hot wash with a small amount of detergent (and no clothing), and that seemed to keep it fresh. I find that using one Affresh tablet is sufficient to clean the washer and leave a light, pleasant fragrance.

5 Stars 6 loads in a day, no problem!
When we replaced our washer and dryer units I had to work hard get what I wanted. Exceeding my husband expectations of cost was the difficult part but it turns out the Whirlpool Duet front loader washer (GHW9150) and matching dryer (GEW9250) was a great investment. Without being a slave to the laundry room, I can get six large loads done in a day. Being Energy Star certified, the Duet units are extremely efficiently even with large loads. And, the washer conserves water by automatically adjusting how much is needed for each load.

But the decision was not an easy one as some reviews about front loaders discussed concerns of mildew and extreme entanglement of clothing. By actually read the manuals since our purchase (April 2005) we haven’t had a single problem or complaint.

1 Star broke in 3 months
I got this washer 3 months ago brand new and we found out 2 weeks ago that it needs a completely new control panel. They had to order the part, gave me the date of two weeks later (last Friday)for arrival to fix it, then the part never arrived. When I called, they said it was backordered until possibly the end of the month, maybe longer. I am very disappointed with the machine and of course the fact that I can’t do any laundry. We’re returning it as soon as we can.

1 Star Buyer beware!!!
I bought this washer 4 months ago and it has broken 2 times already. It has been 2 weeks, 2 trips from repairmen, 2 sets of ordered parts and no end in sight! The repairmen told me to keep up with the warranty bc this washer breaks all of the time. Whirlpool’s warranty department pretty much told me too bad, it takes 7-10 days to get parts and they will exhaust all options and not consider replacing it….nevermind the entire computer system is being replaced. I will never buy another Whirlpool product again and I will warn my friends …which is unfortunate for Whirlpool as we have many years of purchasing ahead of us!

1 Star Not worth the money.
I have had my duet for going on 4 years now… and I am always SO frustrated with the way my clothes always end up twisting themselves into knots. I have used front load washers in the past and I have never had this problem. It is absolutely terrible. Legs of pants will be wrapped up, twisted up, and tied in knots with shirt sleeves and other pants when I go to unload it. Sometimes I can’t even untwist them until i take the entire load out and throw everything on the floor just to seperated them! The dryer does it as well; mostly with sheets, especially fitted one.

Also, small items often end up inside the rubber gasket sopping wet, and if I don’t leave the door to the washer open when it is not in use it produces an awful smell. This is a terrible washer and I am sorry I purchased it.

This is a great machine WHEN it works. I have had mine for 3 months and have had 2 separate problems. Whirlpool has been very unhelpful with the last problem-has been broken for 1 month, still not fixed and no end in site!!!
